As I closely reviewed it in the viewfinder I could tell that it was obviously out of focus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_9871-e1582723318240-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1076 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_9871-e1582723318240-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_9871-e1582723318240-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The first thing I did was to immediately check the lens setting to use autofocus. It was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I then checked the camera menu to see if it all settings were correct for autofocus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05684-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1053 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05684-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05684-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05684-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Next I took several more photos but no luck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were all severely out of focus.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Disappointed, I decided to set this lens aside for the reminder of my time in Florida. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon returning from this trip I planned to send the lens back to the vendor for repair or exchange. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, before calling the vendor for a return authorization, I spent a few minutes googling <em>&#8220;Sony 200-600mm autofocus problem&#8221;<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To my surprise I found a post that was identical to my problem. When I purchased the lens, I also purchased a circular polarizing filter (huge 95mm) to help reduce glare. The individual who wrote the google post explained that his filter interfered with the lens&#8217; autofocus mechanism. By removing the filter, his images were no longer out of focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05824-2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1054 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05824-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05824-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05824-2-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/arnielee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/DSC05824-2-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>So I took the filter off my lens to see if this solution applied to my problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BINGO. The autofocus mechanism worked perfectly and produced this image.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m happy that Google helped me solve my problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m disappointed that I wasn&#8217;t able to take advantage of the extra mm&#8217;s during my stay in Florida. And I&#8217;m reminded that I need to test out new equipment before I&#8217;m in the field. I&#8217;ll continue to search out for a filter which may not interfere with my camera&#8217;s autofocus. Perhaps a different brand has properties that enable the autofocus to perform correctly.
