Faces You May Recognize

In my earlier days I seldom travelled without a camera. Nowadays my cellphone camera is always nearby.

At trade shows, expos, concerts, sports games and other events, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph “famous” people sometimes with a press pass and sometimes as a bystander.

My collection of faces have grown over the years.

Drive By Cross Country

22nd August 2016

From the Midwest to the West at 75 mph

It’s a long way from Grand Rapids, Michigan to the western USA and when you’re driving there’s an awful lot of space between here and there. For those of us who enjoy traveling, there are many familiar sites along the amazing interstate highway system that connects the great expanses of our country.

My journeys are accompanied by a camera or two. These cameras usually stay packed until we reach our final destination. However, I have a nice little point-and-shoot which sits on the dashboard – waiting for me to grab it to capture “stuff” as we pass by at highway speeds. Below is an abbreviated scrapbook that shows you some of that stuff that we saw along the highway as we made our way from Michigan to California. Excuse me if some of the photos are 75mph blurry.

the paths between rows in Iowa are irrigation ditches

colorful clouds as the day nears sunset

huge irrigators watering corn

rolls of hay in Nebraska fields

solitary monuments near Green River, Wyoming

steep upgrade ahead in western Wyoming

mighty diesels pulling freight at Battle Mountain, Nevada

Lake Tenaya in Yosemite Nat’l Park – driving much slower!

Brief trip to Yosemite

This article is the another in a series of articles that I’ve called “About this photo” to draw attention to a few of those memorable photos that may be hiding in a shoebox or on your hard drive.

On a recent drive from Reno to Los Angeles, I had a few extra hours and chose to make a quick drive through Yosemite National Park.

I’ve been to the park many times, but it’s been a very long while since I visited the area known as Glacier Point. Here you will witness an astonishing view of Yosemite Valley and its inspirational surroundings.

Every once in a while, I snap an image which has an emotional effect on me.

The formation straight ahead is the iconic Half Dome.

This photograph reminds me of the first time I experienced this awesome sight more than 40 years ago. I feel much of the same awe that I felt when I was much younger. It’s simply amazing.
